EchoVase
Puzzle Design 1 - Interlocking vase system

Individual Project
Timeline: 09/30/2021
Scale: 16” x 16” x 27” inches/ 406 x 406 x 686 mm
Material: Clay,  glaze

What if a vase asked you to collaborate? Puzzle Art challenges the notion of “finished” design, inviting users to become co-creators through modular, mutable forms. Less product, more conversation.

This Vase rebels against the tyranny of the fixed object. While most vases force flowers to conform to their proportions (tulips bent in narrow necks, sunflowers drowning in wide bowls), this modular system lets users dismantle and reassemble ceramic modules—11 interlocking segments with varying diameters—to craft vessels that adapt to the flower, not the other way around.

Research

The need for different vase shapes depends on the type, size, structure, and visual arrangement of the flowers. A good vase should not only support the flowers physically but also enhance their aesthetic impact.

Deliverable

The interaction with the vase allows multiple outcomes based on the flower types. Each section can be chosen with consideration of the overall shape. Interlocking feature allows users to chose pieces as they wish.
